The Forsyth Humane Society (FHS) is a not-for-profit organization located in Winston-Salem, NC. Founded over 70 years ago, FHS is a leading animal-welfare organization dedicated to the compassionate treatment of cats and dogs in our community. FHS, is committed to maintaining an adoption center with a no-kill policy, educating the community about responsible pet ownership, preventing overpopulation of cats and dogs, advocating for the well-being of animals, placing cats and dogs into loving homes, and enriching the lives of those in the Winston-Salem and surrounding communities through animal companionship. The adoption center is staffed with 12 full-time employees, part-time employees and many active volunteers. A capital campaign is under way to establish a new adoption center, and expand programs
Job Purpose: Maintains and manages the daily operations of the Adoption Center to achieve a clean and safe environment for the animals, staff and the public; satisfy all regulatory requirements; develop effective and responsive adoption services; and facilitate an active and diverse volunteer program.
Duties and Responsibilities Include: Ensure the facility is staffed and clean and that the animals are appropriately cared for, ensure that all state requirements and codes are met, oversee maintenance/repair of the facility and all equipment including phones, computers, heat/air units, etc., perform regular inspections of the grounds and facility, in collaboration with ACM coordinate the ordering/purchasing of supplies * Supervise the Volunteer Coordinator and the Adoption Counselor including training, development, annual reviews, scheduling, time sheets/payroll, in collaboration with the Health and Wellness manager oversees community service work performance * Assist the Volunteer Coordinator with orientation and monitoring of volunteers at the Adoption Center and at community events as needed * Assist/support the Adoption Counselor in performing evaluations, managing the waitlist, admitting Dogs and Puppies, managing the foster care program, and advertising and adopting all animals in a timely manner. * Gather and animal-care related statistics for the monthly Adoption Center Report and provide service information to the ACM in a timely manner,
Qualifications: College degree preferred. Project management and/or supervisory experience required. Excellent communication and organizational skills (prioritizing and planning of work activities). Previous staff, office, and facility management experience. Skilled in Word, Excel and Internet capabilities. Must possess a valid NC driver’s license, and be willing to work flexible hours including some weekends.
Physical activities to be performed may include: lifting and/or restraining and/or managing animals up to 100lbs; walking dogs, cleaning, lifting and transporting pet food and other supplies up to 50 lbs; brisk walking; driving the FHS van; and standing, sitting, working at a computer.
Compensation is commensurate with experience.
