Forsyth County Animal Control - The Forsyth County Animal Control website lets you post or view information on lost and found pets, see adoptable pets, and read about hours, services, ordinances, and more.

Feral Cat Assistance Program – (FCAP) is a nonprofit, all volunteer organization that provides an avenue for the sterilization, adoption and placement of feral cats and kittens, and colony care in this community.

Pet Loss Support Group - Please join us for a Pet Loss Support Group, the third Tuesday of every month from 6:30 to 8:00 pm in the Highland Presbyterian Church Activities Building at 2380 Cloverdale Avenue in Winston-Salem. The group is free and confidential.

Furever Friends – Fur-Ever Friends is an animal adoption and outreach organization Fur-Ever Friends now holding pet adoption fairs at the Forsyth County Shelter on Sundays from 1:00 until 4:00 PM.

Friends of the Shelter – This is a volunteer-based 501(c)3 group that promotes the well-being and adoption of animals at the Forsyth County Animal Shelter. They conduct off-site adoption fairs to help place shelter animals in homes, and provide foster care and medical care for shelter animals.

Pet Travel Center – An online community that provides worldwide resources for pet-friendly hotels, attractions, destinations, RV parks, dog parks, campgrounds, airline pet regulations, pet travel tips, veterinarians, emergency pet hospitals, and a wide variety of pet travel products through its online pet store.

Winston-Salem Dog Training Club – Class schedule, registration guidelines, information on flyball, canine good citizenship, tracking, agility, etc. Learn how to let your dog know what you expect, and build a closer relationship.

AARF (Animal Adoption & Rescue Foundation) - Goal: To assist people and animals in the community through adoption services, rescue operations and a low-cost spay/neuter program. See the AARF website for information about weekly pet adoption fairs.

Online or National Resources

Humane Society of the United States – The Humane Society of the United States website has a goldmine of pet-related information, including pet care and behavior tips, how to pick the right pet for you, what to do if you find a stray pet, current animal issues and pending legislation, etc.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) – The ASPCA website contains information on almost any animal-related topic that you can imagine. Topics include animal cruelty, pet care, poison control, humane education, and legal issues. It also has a section on the Animal Precinct television show and a link to the great Animaland site described below.

Petfinder – The PetFinder website lists pets from local rescue groups and groups across the country. It includes a Pet Search feature, Shelter Locator, resource library on pet care, and more. A great place to find nearly all of the rescue groups in our area!

Purebred Rescue Groups – This page on the American Kennel Club website lists breed-specific rescue contacts from across the country.

The Senior Dogs Project – Advice that applies to dogs of all ages, as well as information on health issues specific to elderly pets. Of special interest: Section entitled “How to Care for an Older Dog.”

Pets 911 – Visit the Pets 911 website for community-specific information on pet adoptions, pet health, spay and neuter information, local veterinarians and more!

Kitten Rescue – The Kitten Rescue website has tips on caring for young kittens, including how to make emergency kitten formula and how to introduce a new cat into a multi-cat home.
