Heather hikes again for Forsyth Humane Society!
After completing the Appalachian Trail and raising $18,000 for FHS in 2007, Heather Kierstead is back on the trail. This time, Stephen Dunn joins Heather to hike the Pacific Crest Trail, over 2,600 miles from Mexico to Canada, with the goal of raising $26,600. The Winston-Salem Foundation is administering their fund "BlinkLove", so donating is easy and secure. The donations are divided among 3 animal rescue charities: 40% to FHS, 40% to FurEver Friends & 20% to the national organization Best Friends. Learn more about the projects being supported by this fundraiser at blinklove.org, and, with a click on the "Give" button, get connected to the WSF donation page. You can also keep track of their journey through videos and posts by clicking here to read their blog. Please help FHS by helping Heather and Stephen reach their goal! Compete for Your Cause The Winston-Salem Foundation sponsored "Compete for Your Cause" raised $1080 for the Forsyth Humane Society. Thanks to all of those who donated on our behalf! SOMEBODY GET US OUT OF PRISON!!!
LOTTIE :: Lottie’s story is a true rescue miracle. Last winter a man arrived at FHS carrying a dirty towel. From inside the towel, the head of a dog popped through. Her body was nothing but bones and she was struggling to live. He had found her in a snow bank along the side of the road. Immediately Lottie was rushed to the vet and given extensive care for several weeks. In many years of practice, the vet had never seen a dog so emaciated. But Lottie is a fighter, and she made a full recovery. She appears to be a Boxer mix, approximately one year in age. SOCKS :: Socks is a beautiful black, female dog with four white paws. She has a very expressive face with large brown eyes that beg to be loved. She is approximately 45 pounds and looks like she may have some Lab, Pit, and possibly even Pug in her. She is very spirited. Socks was adopted from the animal shelter as a baby. Shortly thereafter, her adoptive mother developed a severe health condition and could no longer care for her. She has been living at FHS and searching for a new home since the beginning of May. She appears to be about one year old. JACK :: Jack appears to be a Lab mix. He is all black and has a unique look about him with tiny ears that are low on his head. He came to FHS from a single woman that had a major life change and was not able to care for him any longer. Sadly, he spent several months alone in a crate. He is approximately one year old and 45 pounds. TUCKER :: Tucker is still in search of his forever home. He will continue in the program until his adoptive home is found. Tucker is an extremely affectionate dog. He enjoys being with people and will put his head in a lap for love. Tucker is approximately three years old and a Pit mix. FHS Needs YOU! Not only do we depend on your financial support, but we depend on your support as volunteers. We always need volunteers! Maybe you can give a couple hours a week to answer the phones, walk the dogs or help clean up. Maybe you have a friend family member or neighbor who is retired, loves animals and wants to get out a day or two each week. Let them know we'd love to have them come by to fill out a volunteer application and visit the animals. For more info on volunteer opportunities, please click here. Party for Paws! How about getting together for a good time with your friends and raising money for the FHS at the same time. Sounds like fun! This April we are asking Forsyth Humane Society (FHS) supporters to help us in raising much needed funds by inviting friends/family over for dinner, brunch, a cocktail party, an elegant dinner, afternoon tea or a casual get together—your choice. In return for your hospitality you will ask for donations to the FHS. You choose the date, the number of guests you want and the kind of occasion you prefer. You may want to ask a friend or two to co-host with you. FHS will provide you with invitations for your event as well as FHS material for your guests. If the schedule allows and you wish, we may have a FHS representative speak to your gathering about our activities and needs. All you have to do is let us know that you are willing to host by calling Mary Lea Bradford 336-721-1303 Ext l02 and we will get the invitations and materials to you. Please help us make April a great month for the animals and have fun at the same time!
It's no secret... The Forsyth Humane Society depends solely on private donations and revenue generated from fund raisers to sustain our operations. Given the general state of the economy, we're looking at a significant shortfall in income in 2010. We've taken steps to reduce our operating expenses, and are looking at other ways to cut wherever we can. But it's difficult to do, especially without affecting the care and support we're able to provide for the cats and dogs (and people who love them) in our community. So once again, we're turning to you. We know you can do it. You've done it throughout the years, and the recent outpouring for Mercy (click here to read her story) proves that even in tough times, good people step up. We're asking you to donate whatever you can, but with a twist—through monthly recurring donations. Having a steady stream of regular donations would ease our burden so much. Just $20 a month from 500 people would be a great start to providing some much needed relief. That's only $5 a week. Of course, if you can give more, that would be really great. If you'd prefer to donate quarterly, yearly, or just make a one-time contribution, we're set up for those options too...and we'll appreciate it every bit as much. Be the first on your block to help us kick off our "Gimme Five" campaign and click here to donate now. For the kids out there—we need help naming the dog and cat that are our spokescritters for this new campaign. We're still figuring out all of the details and the prizes for a contest, so stay tuned for details! TEMPORARY FOSTER HOMES NEEDED! Do you have the time to foster a dog, cat, puppies or kittens for a short period of time (typically a week to a few months) while they await admission to our Adoption Center? We will take care of all medical and food needs, crates, and other supplies, but we greatly need some volunteers to help keep our furry friends safe for a short while. Some may be recuperating from a recent injury, or simply have no place else to go. If you are interested, please call 721-1303 and speak to Amber (ext. 103) or Pat (ext. 104). You can also email us at info@forsythhumane.org. An application form must be completed. You can download it by clicking here. THANKS! If you already have a full house, please consider making a donation or volunteering your time to help us help the animals.
