Forsyth Humane Society

Providing animal resource information, animal education, low cost spay / neuter assistance, and promotion of responsible pet ownership to Winston-Salem for over 70 years.

Volunteer

The Forsyth Humane Society is always in need of volunteers. We have an endless list of tasks for those who want to help, so consider this your personal invitation to join our team. We guarantee you’ll feel better knowing that your time and talents are making a difference to some lost, unwanted, frightened, or forgotten cat, kitten, dog or puppy who resides within our community. We also think you’ll make new friends meeting others who care about animals.

If you are interested in becoming a FHS volunteer, fill out our volunteer application form, stop by the Adoption Center, or contact Vanessa, our Volunteer Coordinator. If you are sending an application through the mail, please send all applications to: Vanessa Doran Forsyth Humane Society 61 Miller Street Winston-Salem, NC 27104. For more details please email  vdoran@forsythhumane.org or call (336) 721-1303 ext. 104.

Volunteer Qualifications

    • All volunteers are required to fill out an application, and after one to two weeks* our Volunteer Coordinator will contact you with a Volunteer Orientation day and time. (*Depends on a quick response from two non-family member references).
    • Volunteer applicants must be at least 12 years of age. Volunteers under 14 are required to have an adult volunteer with them.
    • All Adoption Center volunteers are required to attend at least one orientation session prior to becoming a volunteer.
  • Volunteers must be dependable, articulate, people-oriented, and be willing to promote the positions of the FHS. Since so much of our work is provided by volunteers, it is important that our volunteers show up for their scheduled shifts.
  • All volunteers should have a love and respect for animals.

TEMPORARY FOSTER HOMES NEEDED!

Do you have the time to foster a dog, cat, puppies or kittens for a short period of time (typically a week to a few months) while they await admission to our Adoption Center? We will take care of all medical and food needs, crates, and other supplies, but we greatly need some volunteers to help keep our furry friends safe for a short while. Some may be recuperating from a recent injury, or simply have no place else to go. If you are interested, please call 721-1303 and speak to Erin (ext. 102). You can also email us at info@forsythhumane.org. An application form must be completed. You can download our Foster Agreement and Application . THANKS!
